Ehrenberg
is an unincorporated desert community located in La Paz County along the Colorado River, east of Phoenix. It was established as Mineral City at the site of William and Isaac Bradshaw's ferry landing. In the 1870s, when the Colorado River was a main source of transportation to the interior of the Arizona territory, Ehrenberg became a major port. The town was named for Herman Ehrenberg, who was later murdered in California. The town of Ehrenberg was booming in the late 1800s with about 500 residents. Mike Goldwater, grandfather of former Senator Barry Goldwater, established a store and warehouse here. Today, Ehrenberg has a population of approximately 1,600. It has the Colorado River on one side and the fascinating desert on the other side. The river offers lots of recreational opportunities such as boating and fishing, and camping, picnic areas, off-road vehicle areas, restrooms and overnight accommodations are all available in the area. About two miles north of Ehrenberg are the remains of the community of La Paz, which was once considered for the capital of Arizona. La Paz was flooded in the late 1800s or early 1900s, and the entire population was moved to Ehrenberg.

A dry climate with very hot summers and beautiful winters describes the weather of southern California's desert regions. Located just west the Arizona State line, the area surrounding the town of Blythe is one of the hottest and driest places in the state. For instance, in the summer, it can have highs in excess of 110 degrees. Winters, by comparison, are very mild with cool evenings. Summer is a dry period, although occasionally moist air drifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of California and creates scattered, locally heavy showers. What rain that does occur in the wintertime is usually between the months of January through March. People who enjoy outdoors sports are attracted to southern California's warm winters and abundance of sunny days.
