Yuma is nestled in the Yuma and Gila valleys in the southwest corner of the state, just below the convergence of the Colorado and Gila Rivers. This historic city has been ranked by Money Magazine as "one of the top places to live in the United States." Since prehistoric times, Yuma has been the best site for crossing the Colorado River and today it remains a key crossroad for air and land travel. Surrounding by beautiful natural scenery and with a climate that makes outdoor recreation possible year round, Yuma is a great place to visit, raise a family or retire. Access to the beautiful Colorado River is another great asset for this community. Activities to enjoy in the area include boating, swimming and fishing, golf, tennis, rock hounding and camping. Yuma also has recently created six community parks, including a river front park bordering the Colorado River and the Yuma West Wetlands Park. The Yuma Territorial Prison is a living museum of the Old West that gives a glimpse of life as it was for convicts in the Southwest a century ago. Another historic park in town, the Yuma Crossing, has nine acres of winding pathways, with six restored buildings, six replicated buildings and a museum that commemorates five centuries of history. Other places to visit in town include the Yuma Art Center, Historic Yuma Theater and the new Yuma Palms Regional Center.

Yuma Weather & Climate

Southwest Arizona has a desert climate that is arid. Winters are extremely mild and summers are extremely hot. Some of the driest weather in the U.S. is found in the extreme southwest of the state, which received less than 3 inches of rain per year. Thunder and lightening storms are possible, though not common. The heaviest thunderstorms usually occur in the mountainous regions. Snow is very rare in southwest Arizona. Southwest Arizona also receives more sunshine than almost any other area of the U.S. year round. When traveling to Arizona, please remember that the weather across the state is quite varied, depending on the region and elevation. While people in central Arizona are basking in mild weather in January, those in the mountains may be enjoying snow.
