Hualapai-Mountain
Park is located 15 miles south of the town of Kingman in western Arizona. From the Powerhouse Visitor Center in Kingman, drive east on Andy Devine Avenue (Historic Route 66,) then turn right onto Hualapai Mountain Road and follow it for about 14 scenic miles into Hualapai Mountain Park. This 2,320-acre park, nestled in the forest, offers hiking, picnicking, biking, wildlife viewing and bird watching, camping and cabin rentals. Nearby Kingman is a town of about 40,000 and provides shopping and restaurants, golf courses, and its' own parks and trail systems. In addition, as part of Mohave County, there are over 1,000 miles of shoreline on the Colorado River near Hualapai Mountain, which includes Lake Mead, Lake Havasu and Lake Mohave. All of these areas offer fishing, boating, swimming and other water sports. The Hualapai Mountains Back Country Byway crosses a diverse landscape of open desert, through foothills of pinyon pine and juniper to oak and ponderosa pine forest. The elevation climbs from 3,500 feet to over 6,500 feet, giving travelers a breathtaking view of the desert below. Recreation along the way includes hiking, backpacking, rock-climbing, off-road vehicle opportunities and camping. Other nearby attractions include the Historic Route 66 Museum in Kingman, the Mohave Museum of History and Arts, the Kingman Army Airfield Museum and the nearby ghost towns of Chloride and Oatman.

Hualapai Mountain Weather & Climate

Northeast Arizona, in the Hualapai Mountain region, has an arid, desert climate. However, due to the higher elevation between the Colorado Plateau and the Lower Colorado River Valley, temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler here, than in places located right in the desert. Summer daytime highs reach around 90 degrees F. Winter highs are generally mild, ranging in the mid to upper 50s to lower 60s. After the sun sets, winter nighttime lows can sometimes fall to near freezing or lower. This area occasionally receives a dusting of snow, though it rarely remains on the ground for longer than the mid-to-late morning. Snowfall is extremely rare in northwest Arizona. Most rainfall is received in July and August.
