Kingman
is located in Mohave County in Northwest Arizona along Interstate 40 and U.S. 93. It serves as the county seat and has a population of approximately 25,500. The nearby communities of Golden Valley and Butler bring the total population of the region to about 40,000. Kingman is best known for being along the longest remaining stretch of Historic Route 66 in the nation. Known as an "All American Highway," Kingmans stretch of Route 66 has received recognition as a National Scenic Byway. The town is also the gateway city to the gambling destinations of Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. Other nearby attractions include the Colorado River, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Hualapai Mountain Recreation Area and Forever Ranch and Gardens. Outdoor recreational activities near Kingman include hiking, golf, fishing and boating and other water related sports, camping and picnicking. Kingman is also an easy commute to Phoenix and the Grand Canyon and is approximately a half days drive to Los Angeles and San Diego. There are also several old mining towns and ghost towns near Kingman that make an interesting day trip for visitors. The city of Kingman holds many special events throughout the year, including the Historic Route 66 Fun Run, where hundreds of classic cars travel the historic highway and end with a "Show-n-Shine" in downtown Kingman.

Northeast Arizona, in the Hualapai Mountain region, has an arid, desert climate. However, due to the higher elevation between the Colorado Plateau and the Lower Colorado River Valley, temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler here, than in places located right in the desert. Summer daytime highs reach around 90 degrees F. Winter highs are generally mild, ranging in the mid to upper 50s to lower 60s. After the sun sets, winter nighttime lows can sometimes fall to near freezing or lower. This area occasionally receives a dusting of snow, though it rarely remains on the ground for longer than the mid-to-late morning. Snowfall is extremely rare in northwest Arizona. Most rainfall is received in July and August.
