Lakeside is a small resort community located in Navajo County in the White Mountains of northeastern Arizona. In 1984, Lakeside and the neighboring town of Pinetop merged, so today they are known as one place. As of 2006, Lakeside-Pinetop had a population of 4,156. At an elevation of about 7,300 feet, the community is known for its' tourism and recreational activities, amid the world's largest stand of Ponderosa Pines. It's also become a popular place for second-homes/vacation homes for many residents of the state. The scenic White Mountains, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation surround the Lakeside-Pinetop. Outdoor activities in the area include hiking, biking, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, fishing, skiing, picnicking and camping. The White Mountain Trail System provides over 180 miles of developed, multi-use trails, and the Pinetop-Lakeside area is also known for its golf courses. Cross country skiing, sledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing can be enjoyed in the wintertime (activities not usually associated with Arizona.) The Pinetop-Lakeside Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual Native American Art Festival in July. More than 80 of the southwest's finest artists participate in this event, selling their original paintings, rugs, jewelry and other authentic American Indian artwork. Other events in the community include an annual White Mountain Bluegrass Musical Festival in August and Annual Fall Festival, usually held in September.

Lakeside Weather & Climate

Northeast Arizona has more of a varied climate than other areas of the state, due to the elevation and diversity of the geographical area. The mountains have much more of a four-season climate, with cold winters and comfortable summers. The lower desert areas are warmer, with little or no snow in the wintertime. The mountains, which reach 8,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation, average 34 inches of snow per year, but can have as much as 100 inches. Northeast Arizona gets about 14 inches of rain per year. The number of days with any measurable precipitation is 60. On average, there are 276 days of sunshine per year, and keep in mind that the sun is very intense in the mountains. The July high, in the lower elevations, is around 88 degrees. In the mountains, nightly frosts are possible, even in summer, and they're an almost daily occurrence from October to May.
