Pinedale
is a small community located in northern Arizona near the town of Show Low in Navajo County. This area is near the Sitgreaves National Forest, a region of forested pines, rather than the usual Arizona desert terrain. Approximately 66 percent of Navajo County's 9,949 square miles is Indian reservation land. Navajo County's principal industries are tourism, coal and mining, manufacturing, timber production and ranching. The settlement called Pinedale is located about 175 miles northeast of Phoenix and 195 miles north of Tucson at an elevation of approximately 6,400 feet in the White Mountains. Here, among the tallest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the world, are beautiful lakes for fishing and boating and a full trail system for hiking. This is also the only place in the world to find the Apache trout. Other fish that populate the area's lakes are bass, walleye and crappie. For hikers, the White Mountains Trail System has 25 to 30 interconnecting, multi-use trail loops that stretch from the community of Vernon in the east to the town of Clay Springs in the west. The nearby city of Show Low is the commercial and tourism hub of the area, and is home to the annual "Show Low Days Still Cruizin' Car Show," usually held in June.

Pinedale Weather & Climate

Northeast Arizona has more of a varied climate than other areas of the state, due to the elevation and diversity of the geographical area. The mountains have much more of a four-season climate, with cold winters and comfortable summers. The lower desert areas are warmer, with little or no snow in the wintertime. The mountains, which reach 8,000 to 10,000 feet in elevation, average 34 inches of snow per year, but can have as much as 100 inches. Northeast Arizona gets about 14 inches of rain per year. The number of days with any measurable precipitation is 60. On average, there are 276 days of sunshine per year, and keep in mind that the sun is very intense in the mountains. The July high, in the lower elevations, is around 88 degrees. In the mountains, nightly frosts are possible, even in summer, and they're an almost daily occurrence from October to May.
