Dolan-Springs
is a small community located in Mohave County in northwestern Arizona. The population is approximately 1,800. Dolan Springs is most well-known for being "The Gateway to the Grand Canyon West Rim Skywalk." From downtown Dolan Springs, it's only about twenty miles to the west rim of the Grand Canyon. It's all clearly marked, so getting there is a breeze. Dolan Springs is also near Lake Meade, which offers swimming, fishing, boating, water-skiing and picnicking. In addition, the community is located right in the middle of the Joshua Tree Forest, which is a great place for hiking. Some of the trees in the forest are hundreds of years old and make stunning photographic subjects. A word of caution about hiking in the desert; be sure to take along plenty of water and a first aid kit, never hike alone, wear high boots and have a fully charged cell phone with you. Other activities in the area include horseback riding, ATV and dirt bike riding on off-road trails and prospecting for gold. The gift shop in Dolan Springs carries maps and lots of books about the old mining towns in the area. If you visit at the end of October, the town is host to the Annual Dolan Daze Fall Festival. This is a great event for a fun-filled day for the whole family.

Dolan Springs Weather & Climate

Northwest Arizona, on the edge of the Mojave Desert, the climate is classified as arid, desert. However, due to the higher elevation between the Colorado Plateau and the Lower Colorado River Valley, temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler here, than in places located right in the desert. Summer daytime highs reach around 90 degrees F. Winter highs are generally mild, ranging in the mid to upper 50s to lower 60s. After the sun sets, winter nighttime lows can sometimes fall to near freezing or lower. This area occasionally receives a dusting of snow, though it rarely remains on the ground for longer than the mid-to-late morning. Snowfall is extremely rare in northwest Arizona. Most rainfall is received in July and August.
