Globe
is located in the heart of Arizonas magnificent Tonto National Forest, approximately 89 miles east of Phoenix. This colorful little town is surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountain vistas in the Southwest. It has a rich mining history and is supposedly named for a globe-shaped piece of pure silver found nearby. Globe is situated near the mid-point of the legendary Old West Highway that stretches from Apache Junction east to Lordsburg, New Mexico. Globe is also the eastern terminus of the Apache Trail, which runs northwest to Theodore Roosevelt Recreation Area, then turns southwest to Apache Junction. A stroll through this historic town is a delightful way to spend the day, or you can take a drive along the Apache Trail. The town of Globe is host to the Copper Dust Stampede Days in April, which includes a parade, dancing and barbecue. Also, Apache Days in October transforms downtown Globe into a fantastic display of Native American arts, crafts and cuisine. Just two miles south of Globe is the Besh-Be-Gowah Archeological Park, and other nearby attractions include the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, the Tonto National Monument and Casa Grande Ruins National Monument. Nearby recreational areas include the Tonto National Forest, which adjoins Globe, the Theodore Roosevelt Lake Recreation Area (30 miles north,) Devil's Canyon (35 miles north) and the Coronado National Forest is 20 miles south.

Globe Weather & Climate

|
East-central Arizona has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and moderate winters. The arid climate is somewhat tempered by the elevation in the area, making it slightly cooler than the Phoenix and Yuma regions. Nonetheless, summers are hot; daytime highs are generally between 90 and 100 degrees F. Temperatures above 100 in July and August are not uncommon. In winter, east-central Arizona sees daytime highs between 55 and 65 degrees F. and nighttime lows at, or just above, freezing. Rainfall is possible anytime of the year, but most common during the Monsoon of July and August. Snowfall is rare in this part of Arizona. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
