Gold-Canyon
is a small, upscale, golf resort community located 45 minutes due east from Phoenix on Route 60. It's often referred to as "Hidden Gem of Phoenix's Easy Valley." Superstition Mountain, Dinosaur Mountain and many canyons surround the community with breathtaking desert scenery. It's high enough to be out of the smog in Phoenix, and has unspoiled desert lands with clear blue skies and unbelievable starlit nights. Gold Canyon is conveniently located near everything; great restaurants, upscale shopping, and a variety of lodging and plenty of southwestern culture. The resort's bleached white casitas and villas perched on the hillsides give the look and feel of a Mediterranean village. Several nearby lakes offer swimming, boating and fishing, and when it comes to golf - it's hard to beat Gold Canyon. The Dinosaur Mountain Course has been rated the number one public course in Arizona for two years straight. The course has spectacular views of the Superstition Mountains and every tee box offers a panoramic vista. The course goes up, over and around Dinosaur Mountain and has dramatic tee-to-green elevation changes and long, loping fairways. The Sidewider course at Gold Canyon has very affordable greens fees and is known for its creative design and challenging desert landscape. It winds around the base of Dinosaur Mountain amid a natural landscape of arroyos, native cholla and prickly pear cacti, and mesquite and palo verde trees.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate. The area just east of Phoenix near the Superstitious Mountains, has hot, sunny summers and mild winters. Temperatures in the summer often exceed 100 degrees F., with a few days each year generally reaching 110 F. The higher altitude in the eastern portion of the wilderness area has slightly lower temperatures than the western portion. The elevation in this region is approximately 2,000 feet above sea level. Average annual rainfall is about 8 inches. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms are also possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. Snow of any measurable accumulation is rare.
