Lake-Havasu is located on the Colorado River border of Arizona and California. Lake Havasu City, a self-sufficient, planned community that was established in 1963, sits on the east shore of the lake. The London Bridge is one of the main attractions at Lake Havasu. Yes - that's the original London Bridge. When the bridge started sinking into the River Thames in London, Robert P. McCulloch purchased it, had it dismantled and sent by barge to the California coast where it was loaded on a truck and shipped to Lake Havasu. It was then rebuilt brick by brick and has become a focal point for the city. A charming "English Village" was built underneath the bridge and offers a British flavor with Tudor style architecture, tree-lined walkways, quaint shops, and restaurants and "English" pubs. Forty-five mile long Lake Havasu is known as the "Personal Watercraft Capital of the World," and offers swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, kayaking, jet skiing and more. More than 400 miles of shoreline and beaches offers camping, picnicking and hiking trails, plus there are state and commercially operated facilities that include a marina, RV parks, boat rentals, storage, boat slips and boat repair. Cruises of Lake Havasu on board an authentic paddlewheel boat are also available. In addition, the backcountry surrounding Lake Havasu offers miles of quiet wilderness lands for exploring, with historic mines, abandoned towns, unique wildlife and a diverse landscape of sand dunes, rugged canyons, mountains and basins. The Bill Williams National Wildlife Refuge is located at the south end of the lake and is an excellent location for wildlife watching.

Lake Havasu Weather & Climate

The extreme northwest corner of Arizona, in the Lake Havasu region, has an arid desert climate. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any place in the United States. Summer highs generally range between 100 and 122 degrees F. At times, the temperature exceeds 125 degrees F., a scorching, yet dry heat. In winter, the highs range from 63 to 82 degrees F. Frost and snow are virtually unknown in this area. Temperatures do occasionally dip below 40 degrees F. in the winter, but it's not common. The mean annual precipitation is 3.28 inches. Most rain (which isn't much) occurs in December and January. This region has 300 days of sunshine on average each year. The heat is something to consider when planning a trip to this area. If you have heat sensitivities, you should plan to come in the late fall, winter, or early spring.
