Desert-Hills is located about 30 miles north of Phoenix between the communities of Cave Creek/Carefree and Anthem. It's a small, but growing, community that attracts visitors and residents due to its' peaceful surroundings but close proximity to Phoenix. There are many horse ranches in the area and it lies near the border of the Tonto National Forest. If you enjoy wildlife and the outdoors, you'll love Desert Hills. There are no subdivisions or fast food restaurants here, but plenty of stargazing and views of the surrounding mountains and desert. There are many golf courses located in the Desert Hills region, and the Tonto National Forest occupies nearly three million acres of land and offers outstanding recreational activities all year long. It's varied elevation (from 1,300 to almost 8,000 feet) offers scenery from cactus-studded desert to cool, pine-forested mountains. Tonto National Forest is the 5th largest forest in the U.S. Just a short drive from Desert Hills is North Phoenix and a great variety of activities, shopping and cultural events. Other places to visit include the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Desert Hills Weather & Climate

The extreme northwest corner of Arizona, in the Lake Havasu region, has an arid desert climate. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any place in the United States. Summer highs generally range between 100 and 122 degrees F. At times, the temperature exceeds 125 degrees F., a scorching, yet dry heat. In winter, the highs range from 63 to 82 degrees F. Frost and snow are virtually unknown in this area. Temperatures do occasionally dip below 40 degrees F. in the winter, but it's not common. The mean annual precipitation is 3.28 inches. Most rain (which isn't much) occurs in December and January. This region has 300 days of sunshine on average each year. The heat is something to consider when planning a trip to this area. If you have heat sensitivities, you should plan to come in the late fall, winter, or early spring.
