Lake-Havasu-City
is located on the border of Arizona and California in northwestern Arizona. As of the 2010 census, the population was 52,527. It sits on the east shore of Lake Havasu (on the Colorado River). Lake Havasu City is a planned community, established in 1963. It's become a popular tourist town, including a spring break destination for students, and in the winter months, retirees flock to the city from the colder regions of the U.S. and Canada. One of the main attractions in the city is the original London Bridge. When the bridge started sinking into the River Thames in London, Robert P. McCulloch purchased it, had it dismantled and shipped to Lake Havasu City. It was rebuilt, brick by brick, across a 930 foot long, man-made canal that goes from Lake Havasu to Thompson Bay. A charming "English Village" was built underneath the bridge with Tudor style architecture, tree-lined walkways, quaint shops, and "English" pubs. Forty-five mile long Lake Havasu is known as the "Personal Watercraft Capital of the World," and more than 400 miles of shoreline offers camping, picnicking and hiking trails. The backcountry surrounding Lake Havasu City has miles of wilderness for exploring, with historic mines, ghost towns, and a diverse landscape of sand dunes, rugged canyons, mountains and basins. Special events in Lake Havasu City include the World Jet Ski Final Races, many fishing tournaments, custom boat regattas, the Western Winter Blast pyrotechnics convention and the Havasu Island Hot Air Balloon Fest & Fair.

The extreme northwest corner of Arizona, in the Lake Havasu region, has an arid desert climate. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any place in the United States. Summer highs generally range between 100 and 122 degrees F. At times, the temperature exceeds 125 degrees F., a scorching, yet dry heat. In winter, the highs range from 63 to 82 degrees F. Frost and snow are virtually unknown in this area. Temperatures do occasionally dip below 40 degrees F. in the winter, but it's not common. The mean annual precipitation is 3.28 inches. Most rain (which isn't much) occurs in December and January. This region has 300 days of sunshine on average each year. The heat is something to consider when planning a trip to this area. If you have heat sensitivities, you should plan to come in the late fall, winter, or early spring.
