Topock s a small, unincorporated community located on the Colorado River in Mohave County. It lies between Bullhead City and Lake Havasu City and is southeast of Needles, California on the Arizona/California border. It is known as a boating town and is also well known as being home to an old Route 66 bridge that was featured in the classic movie "The Grapes of Wrath." There is a marshy area between the town and the river known as Topock Marsh that is a wildlife refuge. This marsh is one of the largest birding sites found in the Lower Colorado River Valley. Topock is also the site of one of PG&Es recompression stations on its super-inch natural gas pipeline from Texas to San Francisco (completed in 1930.) The Topock Marina is located just off U.S. Route 40 on Historic Route 66 and is the traditional refueling point for boaters traveling between the two cities of Needles and Lake Havasu City. The marina features a boat launch ramp, a mobile home park and a full service restaurant/bar and is the only facility of its type in the area.

Topock Weather & Climate

A hot, desert climate with mild winters describes Needles' weather. Located in southern California just west the Arizona State line, Needles is one of the hottest and driest places in the state. For instance, in the summer, it can have highs in excess of 110 degrees. Winters, by comparison, are very mild with cool evenings. Summer is a dry period, although occasionally moist air drifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico or the Gulf of California and creates scattered, locally heavy showers. What rain that does occur in the wintertime is usually between the months of January through March. People who enjoy outdoors sports are attracted to Needles' warm winters and abundance of sunny days.
