Marana
is a lovely community located between Tucson and Phoenix in Pima County, Arizona. As of 2004, the population of the town was approximately 23,500 residents. Marana was the fourth fastest growing community among cities and towns of any size in Arizona from 1990 to 2000. The outlying population of the city is quite large due to its connections to Tucson, Picture Rocks and the Avra Valley. The city of Marana actually extends along Interstate 10 from the border between Pinal and Pima County to the Tucson city line. Marana is more rural in nature than Tucson, but it is extensively developed with many hotels, restaurants and shopping venues. Although the town itself is relatively young (incorporating in 1977,) it has a long, rich history with over 4200 years of continuous human occupation. The beautiful Tucson Mountains and the western half of Saguaro National Park are located to the west of the city of Marana. A short drive takes you to Tucson where you will find lots of shopping, museums, restaurants and art galleries. The area is also one of America's favorite golf destinations, and other recreational activities include hiking, biking, jeep tours, hot air ballooning.

Southern Arizona, near the Mexico border, has a desert climate, but is generally cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of what is called evapotranspiration, or loss of water (evaporation.) Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is sometimes seen during this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona, and the area generally averages one hard freeze per season. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
