Tanque-Verde
is a town with a long history, located in Pima County in southern Arizona. The population of the town, which is nestled in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains, is approximately 16,000. Tanque Verde began as a ranching community in the mid-1800s when the settling of the American West was going strong. The area was also home to a large number of Apache Native American Indians at this time. At first, the community was quite remote from nearby Tucson, but as that city grew, the population in Tanque Verde did, as well, although not as quickly. By the middle of the 20th century, the town of Tanque Verde had become a suburb of Tucson. Today, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, "Tanque Verde has the highest median household income of any city or community in southern Arizona, and one of the highest in Arizona." Outdoor recreational activities in the area include horseback riding, hiking, biking, swimming, birdwatching and fishing. Tanque Verde is home to a ranch-resort, which offers activities for all ages. You can simply relax and enjoy the desert scenery, or engage in all sort of activities offered at the ranch. The beauty and tranquility of the area is incredible. It's perfect for stargazing and listening to the night sounds of owls and coyotes. Nearby attractions include Roy Drachman Ague Caliente Park, which features a natural hot springs and walking trails.

Tanque Verde Weather & Climate

Southern Arizona, near the Mexico border, has a desert climate, but is generally cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of what is called evapotranspiration, or loss of water (evaporation.) Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is sometimes seen during this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona, and the area generally averages one hard freeze per season. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
