Pine
is one of the five communities that make up Arizona's "Rim Country," which also includes Payson, Strawberry, Star Valley and Christopher Creek. It's located approximately 100 miles northeast of Phoenix on Highway 87 at the base of the Mogollon Rim. Located at 5,000 feet above sea level, this is a different Arizona. Here the air is pure and four distinct seasons offer cool breezes in the summer and snow in winter. The community of Pine is situated amid the largest strand of Ponderosa pine trees in the world. "Rim Country" is near three national forests - the Coconino, Sitgreaves and Tonto. There are a myriad of outdoor recreational activities in the area, such as golf, hiking, fishing and boating, horseback riding, birding and winter snow skiing. The nearby town of Payson is home to the "World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo," and "The Festival in Strawberry" (which includes the Strawberry Jam Music Festival,) is usually held in June and includes arts and crafts, and everything strawberry, from short cake to strawberry salsa. Other attractions in the area include beloved author Zane Grey's cabin where he wrote many of his novels, the Pine-Strawberry Museum and the ancient Shoofly Village Ruins. If you travel 30 miles north of Pine you will be at the top of the Mogollon Rim (7,000 feet elevation,) or if you travel 30 miles south, you will be in the heart of the desert and Roosevelt Lake.

East-central Arizona has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. The climate is somewhat tempered by the elevation in the area, making it slightly cooler than the Phoenix and Yuma desert regions. Nonetheless, summers are hot; daytime highs are generally between 90 and 100 degrees F. In July and August, it's not uncommon to see temperatures soar above 100 degrees F. In winter, east-central Arizona sees daytime highs between 55 and 65 degrees F. and nighttime lows at, or just above, freezing. Rainfall is possible anytime of the year, but most common during the Monsoon of July and August. Snowfall is rare in this part of Arizona. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
