Happy-Jack is a "populated place" in Coconino County in Central Arizonas "Rim Country." This area also includes the communities of Strawberry, Christopher Creek, Pine and Payson. "Rim Country" stands for the Mogollon Rim, which is a 2000 foot escarpment that bisects the state from east to west for almost 200 miles and towers above the communities below. This is one of the few places in Arizona which has a unique temperate climate that evolves through all four seasons. Happy Jack lies between Payson and Flagstaff. It is said the area got its unusual name from a happy logger who lived there in the 1940s who "drank a bit too much by night." Thus, Happy Jack was born. Surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, the area offers abundant hiking, fishing, horseback riding, biking, picnicking, camping and other outdoor activities. In wintertime, you can go cross country or alpine skiing and snowshoeing. There is also a full service lodge and RV resort located in Happy Jack, situated on 72 acres among tall ponderosa pines. This is truly a unique area of Arizona where many of the home are nestled among the pines with spectacular views.

North-central Arizona has a temperate high desert climate. A combination of high elevation and low humidity produces mild weather conditions most of the year. The average temperature in this region runs 28 degrees F. cooler than the lower desert regions. Summer temperatures are usually in the 90s, but may sometimes reach 100 degrees. Annual precipitation is just over 19 inches. Most rain occurs during the monsoon of July and August. Brief, but intense, afternoon thunderstorms are also a possibility. Winter brings cooler temperatures and an occasional dusting of snow. Elevation in northern Arizona which ranges from 2,600 feet to over 12,000 feet. Much more snow is received in the higher elevations, but even so, the relatively low latitude and plentiful sunshine quickly melts the snow.
