Strawberry
is a small town of just over 1,000 residents, located about 100 miles northeast of Phoenix on Highway 87 at the base of the Mogollon Rim. It's one of the five communities that make up "Arizona's Rim Country" which also includes Payson, Pine, Star Valley and Christopher Creek. Strawberry is most well known for "The Festival in Strawberry," located in the downtown area, this special event features local artisans and crafters, lots of delicious food and everything from fresh Strawberry Pie to Strawberry Salsa. The festival has grown to also include the "Strawberry Jam Music Festival," which has featured performers as well as open mic and jam. This event is usually held in June and admission is free. The Historic Strawberry Schoolhouse is Arizona's oldest standing schoolhouse, as well as a living history museum with guides who dress in period costumes and speak to visitors as though they are in the late 1800s. For more history, visit the Pine-Strawberry Museum in the town of Pine, which displays artifacts relative to the prehistory and history of the area. Other attractions include three nearby national forests and an abundance of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing and cross country skiing, and "The World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo," in the town of Payson.

Strawberry Weather & Climate

East-central Arizona has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. The climate is somewhat tempered by the elevation in the area, making it slightly cooler than the Phoenix and Yuma desert regions. Nonetheless, summers are hot; daytime highs are generally between 90 and 100 degrees F. In July and August, it's not uncommon to see temperatures soar above 100 degrees F. In winter, east-central Arizona sees daytime highs between 55 and 65 degrees F. and nighttime lows at, or just above, freezing. Rainfall is possible anytime of the year, but most common during the Monsoon of July and August. Snowfall is rare in this part of Arizona. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
