San-Tan-Valley
is a bedroom community located in the Greater Phoenix area's southeastern suburbs. It's situated between the towns of Queen Creek and Florence. As of the 2010 census, the population of San Tan Valley was 81,321. This area consisted mostly of undeveloped desert prior to 2000, but it became one of the fastest growing communities in Arizona of the last decade. The community of San Tan Valley consists mostly of master planned developments, such as Pecan Creek South, San Tan Heights and Johnson Ranch. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the rural setting, within easy commuting distance of Metro Phoenix, and the communities of Mesa, Tempe, Chandler and Gilbert. Outdoor activities in the area include swimming, golf, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. You can enjoy views of the Superstition Mountains and San Tan Mountains from San Tan Valley, which are just minutes away. There are many parks and hiking/biking trails in the area. For instance, San Tan Mountain Regional Park offers over eight miles of trails that range in length from 1.1 miles to over 5 miles, and range in difficulty from easy to strenuous. Bring your camera for photographic opportunities of the wildlife, plants and scenic mountain views. Use caution and always remember to carry lots of water with you when hiking in the desert.

South-central Arizona has a desert climate, but is cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of what is called evapotranspiration, or loss of water (evaporation.) Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is sometimes seen during this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona, and the area generally averages one hard freeze per season. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
