Chandler
is located in the Greater Phoenix Valley, just twenty minutes from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. It's the sixth largest city in Arizona with a population of approximately 194,000, and is one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. Chandler is named for Dr. A.J. Chandler, the first veterinary surgeon appointed to the Arizona territory. The well known San Marcos Hotel was built by Dr. Chandler in 1913 and was one of the first resort hotels in the state. It has been fully restored and updated to maintain its' world class status that has been pampering guests for decades. Chandler boasts world-class golf courses, resorts, premier shopping and fabulous dining at restaurants with every kind of cuisine imaginable. Downtown Chandler was recently designated a National Register Historic District and offers an eclectic blend of shops, award-winning restaurants and art galleries - even an old-fashioned diner. A farmer's market is held year round on Thursday afternoons and music concerts are held on the city square throughout the spring and fall. Chandler is known for its' championship golf courses. It all began in 1913 at the San Marcos Resort's 100-acre course, which was the first grass links in Arizona. Other major attractions in town include the Chandler Center for the Arts, the Chandler Historical Museum, the Arizona Railway Museum and the Snedigar Sportsplex. Special events include the Ostrich Festival, which celebrates the town's roots, the Chandler Jazz Festival and the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Festival.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
