Corona-De-Tucson
is a growing community (census-designated place) located in Pima County in southwest Arizona. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,675. This is an extremely large increase from the population of 813 in the 2000 population. Corona de Tucson is approximately 25 miles from the city of Tucson and just a short drive to the community of Vail. Attractions near Corona de Tucson include the Rincon Mountain District of the Saguaro National Park, and Colossal Cave Mountain Park. The Colossal Cave system was discovered in 1879 and contains about 3.5 miles of mapped passageways. Aside from the caves, the park features the La Posta Quemada Ranch Museum, the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, horseback riding trails, a butterfly garden, camping and picnicking. The cave tour is a half-mile long and takes about 50 minutes to complete. You will see cave formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, boxwork and helictites, as your guide tells the history and legends of the caves. The park also holds several special events throughout the year. A short drive from Corona de Tucson takes you to the Rincon Mountain District, which is well-known for its' hiking opportunities. An 8.3-mile loop road around the Rincon Mountain District provides access to the central trails and two picnic areas in the park. At the southern boundary of the park is the Hope Camp Trails, which is frequented by equestrians.

Southern Arizona near the Mexico border, has a desert climate, but is cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of what is called evapotranspiration, or loss of water. Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is sometimes seen during this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona, and the area generally averages one hard freeze per season. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
