Ahwatukee
Village, which is also referred to as the Ahwatukee Foothills, is a fast growing, affluent "urban village," that is part of the metro Phoenix area. It is bound by I-10 to the east, South Mountain to the north and the Gila Indian Reservation to the west and south. Due to its' separation geographically from Phoenix by South Mountain, Ahwatukee, which means "House of Dreams," is often thought to be its own city. It boasts a population of approximately 90,000 within 35.8 square miles and is highly regarded for its private schools, public schools and pre-schools. Visitors to Ahwatukee enjoy the mountain views and great desert scenery, quiet neighborhoods and abundant recreational activities. South Mountain Park, which encompasses 16,000 acres, is the largest city owned park in the country, and offers miles of hiking and biking trails and horseback riding. There are also many lakes and golf courses in the area, community centers and landscaped walking paths. Ahwatukee is conveniently located near retail and commercial areas and is just minutes to downtown Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale and Old Town Tempe.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
