Arcadia
is an upscale neighborhood of Phoenix, Arizona in the south-central portion of the state. Its' location is adjacent to the suburbs of Paradise Valley, the Biltmore area and North Phoenix, and near the city of Scottsdale. Arcadia is built on former citrus groves, and many of the yards still feature orange, lemon and grapefruit trees. Homes in Arcadia are very nice ranch-style on large lots with mature, lush green landscaping. The local high school has the same name and Arcadia is well-known for being part of one of the best school districts in Arizona. Arcadia also offers a variety of shopping and dining opportunities, conveniently located right in the neighborhood. Nearby attractions include Old Town Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin West and many other art galleries and museums. For outdoor recreation, the surrounding desert and mountains provide opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. More than 200 golf courses are in the Phoenix area (Arizona ranks highest in the number of golf courses per capita of any western state.) Other places of interest near the neighborhood of Arcadia include the Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden, the Phoenix Zoo, the Heard Museum and the Phoenix Art Museum.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
