Buckeye is a small town that is the western most community located in the "Valley of the Sun," just 35 miles west of Phoenix. It was founded in 1888 and what was once a sleepy agricultural town is quickly growing in population and size. Called Arizona's "biggest small town," Buckeye is home to approximately 30,000 people, but that number is expected to explode to around 100,000 by 2010. There are over 240,000 new homes planned in Buckeye, and along with the homes come world-class retail, entertainment, health care and educational facilities. However, visitors will discover Buckeye to still be a place to enjoy the atmosphere of a small community with events like an old-fashioned Fourth of July Celebration, Countryfest in the fall and Pioneer Days in the spring. Buckeye is intersected by five highways and spectacular views of White Tank Mountain can be seen from every vantage point in the town. There are more than 200 golf courses in the area (Arizona ranks highest in the number of golf courses per capita of any western state,) and other outdoor activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, hot air balloons and scenic day trips to the nearby mountain and the Sonoran Desert. Of course, the city of Phoenix is just minutes away and offers fine dining and shopping, exciting nightlife, art galleries, museums and theater, opera, ballet and symphony. Other attractions include the Phoenix Zoo and the Desert Botanical Garden.

Buckeye Weather & Climate

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. On average, this part of the state is sunny 85 percent of the year, with an average annual rainfall total being 8.3 inches. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms are possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898. Please note that the weather in Arizona is quite varied, depending on the region you're visiting. While people in central Arizona are basking in sunny, mild weather in January, those in the mountains may be enjoying snow.
