El-Mirage
is a rapidly growing city located in Maricopa County, just northwest of Phoenix. Known as the "Gateway to the Northwest Valley," the town of El Mirage lies on the bank of the (usually) dry Agua Fria River near several recreational areas, including Lake Pleasant /White Tanks Mountain Regional Parks. Some of the best golf courses in the Valley can be found near El Mirage, and several professional sports venues are just minutes away. In addition, the city of El Mirage offers high-end retail outlets, excellent restaurants and, of course, temperatures that allow year round outdoor activities. Nearly 30,000 acres makes up White Tank Mountain Regional Park, the largest regional park in Maricopa County. The deeply serrated ridges and canyons in the park rise sharply from the base of the mountain to a peak at over 4,000 feet. Activities in the park include approximately 25 miles of hiking trails, horseback riding, biking, camping, picnicking, geocaching, star gazing and more. Special events are also held regularly at White Tanks Mountain Park. For another sort of nightlife, downtown Phoenix is a short drive from El Mirage and offers an exciting arts scene, exquisite spas, fine dining and nightclubs.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and mild to warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during summer. On average, this part of the state is sunny 85 percent of the year, with an average annual rainfall total being 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. This region usually experiences only five days per year when the temperature drops to freezing. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
