Goodyear
is a master planned community that includes lakes, golf courses and country clubs, located just twenty minutes west of downtown Phoenix. In 1917, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company purchased 16,000 acres to plant cotton used in making rubber tires. The small community that developed as a result was first named "Egypt" for the Egyptian cotton grown there, but was later changed to "Goodyear." Today it's one of the fastest growing cities in the state. Scenic mountain and desert views, beautiful golf courses, parks and a relaxed, family atmosphere is what attracts people to the community. Goodyear also has the advantage of being near all the cultural, shopping and entertainment venues of nearby Phoenix. Nestled near the base of the Estrella Mountains, Goodyear provides abundant outdoor recreational activities for everyone. The Estrella Mountain Regional Park is comprised of 19, 840 acres and offers 33 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. A 65-acre portion of the park is within Goodyear and has been developed for recreational use, including an 18-hole golf course. Eight other golf courses are in the nearby vicinity. In addition, there are walking and jogging trails throughout many of the developments within the community, and Goodyear has almost 95 miles of bike paths. Each fall, the town hosts "Goodyear's Taste and Tunes Festival, (formerly called the "Goodyear Cool Desert Jazz Festival,) and a Senior Rodeo is presented each year to celebrate the town's western heritage.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. On average, this part of the state is sunny 85 percent of the year, with an average annual rainfall total being 8.3 inches. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms are possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898. Please note that the weather in Arizona is quite varied, depending on the region you're visiting. While people in central Arizona are basking in sunny, mild weather in January, those in the mountains may be enjoying snow.
