Scottsdale is located just east of Phoenix in central Arizona, a vibrant city that blends upscale amenities with the character of the Old West. This beautiful city is known for its' more than 100 art galleries, craft shops and golf courses. Shopping and dining is also outstanding here. Modeled after a 14th - century Italian village, The Borgata features many unique shops, and, November through April, a Friday-night jazz series. Scottsdale Fashion Square has more than 225 stores and quaint Downtown Scottsdale blends southwestern charm with contemporary shops and art galleries. For your culinary delights, Scottsdale has more than 600 restaurants and an exciting nightlife with dance clubs and jazz and blues venues. For outdoor fun, Scottsdale is surrounded by desert and mountain preserves for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The city was also recently named "America's Best Place to Live for Golf," by the Robb Report. Almost 200 golf courses are in the Scottsdale area and the city hosts professional tournaments such as the PGA FBR Open at the Tournament Players Club of Scottsdale. Some of the other special events include the ArtWalk held on Thursday evenings (year round,) the Annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl held in January, the Annual Scottsdale Arabian Horse Show in February and the Annual Fall ArtFest in October.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
