Green-Valley
is located 25 miles south of Tucson on Interstate 19 in historic Santa Cruz Valley, just 25 minutes from the Tucson International Airport. Generally considered a booming retirement community, (although families with children also live here,) Green Valley has been selected as one of the country's best places to retire by "Where to Retire," and "New Choices for Retirement." It's a small community of approximately 25,000 residents and at an elevation of 3,000 feet, the temperature averages 80 degrees during the day and 50 at night. There are nine golf courses located in Green Valley and several lakes for fishing. The nearby Coronado National Forest offers hiking, biking and camping. About 14 miles from Green Valley is Madera Canyon, located at the base of the Santa Rita Mountains. The Super Trail at Madera Canyon goes all the way to the summit of Mt. Wrightson, and picnicking, camping and birding are other good activities to enjoy at the park. There are many other places to visit in the area, including the Kartchner Caverns State Park and the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. If you're in the mood for a day trip, the rustic western town of Bisbee and the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument are about 100 miles from Green Valley.

Southern Arizona near the Mexico border, has a desert climate, but is cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of what is called evapotranspiration, or loss of water. Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is sometimes seen during this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona, and the area generally averages one hard freeze per season. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
