Tubac
is located in south central Arizona, about 23 miles north of the Mexican border and 50 miles south of Tucson. It's a historically rich region that lies in the Santa Cruz River Valley, and is bordered by the Santa Rita, Tumacacori & San Cayetano Mountains. Scenic high desert vistas surround the town, and summer temperatures are noticeably cooler than in Tucson or Phoenix. Established in 1752 as a Spanish presidio, Tubac is now a thriving arts center with a motto that proclaims, "Where Art & History Meet." More than 90 shops line the town's streets, including art galleries, working studios and gift shops, and artists' studios surround the grounds that once served as the home for a Spanish military garrison. The Tubac Presidio State Historic Park is located in the village's Old Town (and is Arizona's first state park) and the Tubac Center of the Arts provides a full range of programs and seasonal exhibits that are not to be missed. Ten golf courses are located within thirty minutes of Tubac, and other popular outdoor activities include birding, hiking, camping and sightseeing. Tubac is home to an Annual Festival of the Arts, the longest running event of its kind in the southwest. This event is usually held in the month of February and showcases the work of hundreds of artists, crafters and musicians from across the U.S. and Canada.

South-central Arizona, on the Mexico border, has a desert climate, but is generally cooler and wetter than the central desert region due to its' higher elevation. Southern Arizona averages 11 inches of rain per year, but also experiences a high level of evaporation. Most of the rainfall occurs during the monsoon months of July and August. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon, and dramatic lightening is also often seen at this time. Summer temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F. Early summer has low humidity and clear skies; mid-to- late summer has higher humidity, cloudy skies and occasional rain. Winters are mild in southern Arizona. Snow is rare, but has been known to fall; usually just a light dusting that melts quickly.
