Maricopa
is 16 miles south of Interstate 10 in Pinal County, about 20 miles south of Phoenix and 20 miles northwest of Casa Grande. It's one of the most productive farm communities in the state, where cotton, grains, fruit and vegetables thrive. Maricopa is part of the area known as "The Golden Corridor," which stretches between two of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the state, Phoenix and Tucson. The Golden Corridor is considered to be the "heartbeat of Arizona." The town of Maricopa lies at the foot of the Sierra Estrella Mountains, which provides lots of recreational opportunities, such as hiking, rock hounding and picnicking. The Firebird International Raceway is a few miles north of town. The raceway has three road-racing courses, a drag strip and a 120-acre private sport lake, and many major spectator motor sports are held at the raceway throughout the year. Another nearby attraction is Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino, located just one mile down State Highway 347. The casino offers slot machines, bingo, live entertainment and restaurants. Maricopa is not only a rich agricultural city, but also a rapidly growing community with lots to offer visitors and residents.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
