Prescott
is located in the central mountains of Arizona, about 96 miles northwest of Phoenix and 90 miles southwest of Flagstaff. The elevation is just high enough for four mild seasons. It's surrounded by one of the nation's largest ponderosa pine forests, making it ideal for those who love the outdoors. Five lakes in the area provide boating, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. The Prescott National Forest offers over 450 miles of recreational trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and off-road adventures. Prescott is also a popular destination among golf enthusiasts. The town boasts some of the most affordable and beautiful golf courses in the state, and the mile high climate makes playing ideal. Downtown Prescott was built around its' historic Courthouse Plaza, and is filled with an array of great restaurants, quaint shops, boutiques and art galleries. Over 500 buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, including The Palace Saloon on the infamous Whiskey Row, which is the same place where Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp were served. The fun doesn't end when the sun goes down, either. Prescott has live music (everything from country to jazz,) along with theater and a wealth of fine restaurants. Special events are held in the town throughout the year, including a Bluegrass Festival in June and Frontier Days and the World's Oldest Rodeo in July. Other attractions in Prescott include the Sharlot Hall Museum, Prescott Fine Arts Museum, the Heritage Park Zoo and the Highland Center for Natural History.

Prescott Weather & Climate
West-central Arizona has a cooler variation of a semi-arid climate due to the elevation. This region has four seasons with mild to cold winters and warm to hot summers. Summer temperatures are considerably cooler than the lower elevation central desert region. Highs average 89 degrees F. in summer and 50 degrees F. in winter. Nighttime lows are cool, though, due to the elevation and aridity. Annual precipitation is 19.2 inches with spring and early summer the driest times of the year. It snows sometimes in this region of the state, but it's typically light and usually melts very quickly. The largest portion of precipitation falls during the July and August monsoon season. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon.
