Chino-Valley is a small town nestled in the cool mountains of central Arizona, about 15 miles north of the city of Prescott. At an elevation of 4,750 feet, residents of this community enjoy a mild climate and a "gentle" four seasons. Chino Valley has a rich history and was the site of the first Territorial Capital of Arizona, which was later moved to Prescott. The town makes a peaceful base from which to explore several scenic loop tour drives and day trips to some of northern Arizona's top tourist spots. Nearby Prescott is a thriving arts community with a quaint downtown full of galleries, boutiques and great restaurants. Be sure to take the walking tour of the town's historic Whiskey Row. The Palace Saloon, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, contains the very same bar on which Doc Holiday and Wyatt Earp were served libations. After dark, Prescott offers theater, live music (whether it's country, rock or jazz,) and restaurants that offer everything from "down home cookin'" to upscale. For outdoor recreation, Chino Valley is near the Prescott National Forest, which offers nearly 450 miles of scenic hiking, horseback riding or mountain biking trails. Chino Valley is approximately 115 miles from Phoenix, 90 miles from Flagstaff and 50 miles from Sedona.

Chino Valley Weather & Climate

West-central Arizona has a cooler variation of a semi-arid climate due to the elevation. This region has four seasons with mild to cold winters and warm to hot summers. Summer temperatures are considerably cooler than the lower elevation central desert region. Highs average 89 degrees F. in summer and 50 degrees F. in winter. Nighttime lows are cool, though, due to the elevation and aridity. Annual precipitation is 19.2 inches with spring and early summer the driest times of the year. It snows sometimes in this region of the state, but it's typically light and usually melts very quickly. The largest portion of precipitation falls during the July and August monsoon season. Flash floods are possible during the monsoon.
