Sedona
is located in Arizona's legendary Red Rock Country under the towering southwestern rim of the Colorado Plateau. This 19-square mile city is split between Coconino and Yavapai Counties and almost 50 percent of the city is within the Coconino National Forest. Sedona is situated at the mouth of the spectacular Oak Creek Canyon, which is characterized by its' massive red-rock formations. It's become one of the state's premier tourist and recreational spots, with breathtaking natural beauty that rivals any of the nation's national parks. Historically, Sedona was a rural ranching community located off the beaten path, but its' scenic beauty soon became nationally known and today it's Arizona's second most visited area, after the Grand Canyon. Some come to enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings alone; others come for the shops and galleries, world class spas and resorts. Sedona is also known internationally as a spiritual mecca and has drawn some of the most well known artists, intuitives and spiritual guides in the world today. Recreational opportunities abound, such as incredible hiking trails of varied degrees of difficulty, horseback riding, biking, ATV tours of the Sedona countryside, golf and tennis, camping and picnicking. Most people who visit Sedona will not want to leave without visiting nearby Slide Rock State Park. This canyon features a natural water slide that has eroded into the slick rock and is surrounded by massive red-rock walls. It's a favorite of kids, but adults will love it, too. Tours of the Sedona area are available by jeep, airplane, helicopter, on scenic railroads, or even by hot-air balloon.

Northwest Arizona, on the edge of the Mojave Desert, the climate is classified as arid, desert. However, due to the higher elevation between the Colorado Plateau and the Lower Colorado River Valley, temperatures are usually a few degrees cooler here, than in places located right in the desert. Summer daytime highs reach around 90 degrees F. Winter highs are generally mild, ranging in the mid to upper 50s to lower 60s. After the sun sets, winter nighttime lows can sometimes fall to near freezing or lower. This area occasionally receives a dusting of snow, though it rarely remains on the ground for longer than the mid-to-late morning. Snowfall is extremely rare in northwest Arizona. Most rainfall is received in July and August.
