Paradise-Valley
is located in Central Arizona's Maricopa County, nestled between Phoenix and Scottsdale. It covers 16.5 square miles and was incorporated as a planned residential community in 1961. One of the many attractions of Paradise Valley is its' convenient location, just 10 minutes to the upscale shopping and entertainment of Scottsdale, 20 minutes to central Phoenix and 20 minutes to the Sky Harbor International Airport. In the 1880s, the Rio Verde Canal Company decided to turn the desert land west of Scottsdale into a farming region and name it Paradise Valley due to the abundance of wildflowers growing here. The farming idea never took off, but as the town of Phoenix grew, some people began to build homes and high-end resorts in Paradise Valley. The community chose to incorporate to prevent too much development and growth. Paradise Valley offers beautiful views of Camelback Mountain and Mummy Mountain. The Echo Canyon Recreational Area offers many hiking trails to the top of Camelback Mountain. Experienced rock climbers will enjoy the challenge of "The Monk," a rock formation given the name because it looks like a praying monk on bended knee. For the less adventurous, the Paradise Valley Scenic Drive takes you past stunning desert landscape and luxurious homes. Whether you're looking for casual southwestern charm or elegant sophistication, you'll find all the amenities and services you could ask for in Paradise Valley. Some of the finest golf courses in the state are located here, along with a variety of gourmet restaurants and shopping at the Paradise Valley Mall.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. On most days from May through September, the temperature reaches or exceeds 100 degrees F. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during the year. On average, south-central Arizona has an average annual rainfall of 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Dust storms are also possible during the summer. They form from monsoon storm "outflows," or sudden gusts of wind. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and may produce significant rain - but it's rare. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
