Cave-Creek
is located in northern Maricopa County just north of the cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale. The population of the town is just under 5,000 and the elevation is between 2,000 and 3,000 (high enough to be a little cooler and less smoggy than the cities below.) Interstate 17 is located approximately 8 miles to the west, via the Carefree Highway. Often linked with its' sister city, Carefree, the two towns are actually complete opposites. Carefree has a more upscale style; while Cave Creek is more traditional "western" with fewer golf courses and more horses than the typical Arizona town. Cave Creek was founded as a mining camp and didn't incorporate as a town until 1986. The community has a unique history and independent spirit that has been nurtured for more than 100 years by the miners, ranchers and artists who have settled here. Surrounded by the beauty of the Sonoran Desert, Cave Creek, along with Carefree, is home to a thriving arts community of hundreds of artists and numerous galleries. As part of the Desert Foothills region, visitors will find plenty of outdoor fun such as hiking, biking, golf, boating, water skiing and fishing at nearby Bartlett Lake and the Cave Creek Recreation Area. Other worthwhile attractions are the Cave Creek Mistress Mine and Cave Creek Museum. An annual Fiesta Days celebration is held in Carefree/Cave Creek in April.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate with extremely hot summers and mild to warm winters. This region has some of the hottest summer daytime temperatures of any area in the United States. Highs top 110 degrees F. an average of 18 days during summer. On average, this part of the state is sunny 85 percent of the year, with an average annual rainfall total being 8.3 inches. March is the wettest month and June is the driest. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms moving inland from the Pacific Ocean are possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. This region usually experiences only five days per year when the temperature drops to freezing. Snow of an accumulation of 0.1 inches or greater has occurred in central Arizona only eight times since 1898.
