Fountain-Hills
is about 30 miles from downtown Phoenix in central Arizona. The McDowell Mountains are to the west, the Fort McDowell Indian Reservation on the east, Salt River Indian Reservation is to the south and the McDowell Mountain Regional Park also on the south. This virtually protects Fountain Hills from ever growing too large - which is the way residents like it. The town's motto is "All That Is Arizona," and the town has been rated one of the "top 50 places to raise a family." A man made lake lies in the center of a 32-acre park in Fountain Hills and contains the town's landmark - the world's tallest, continually flowing fountain. The town also boasts spectacular 360-degree mountain views. Saguaro Lake is just over ten miles from Fountain Hills and Bartlett Lake is 50 miles north. Both offer swimming, boating, fishing, water skiing, picnicking, hiking and more. Golf is another popular sport in Fountain Hills. There are several courses located nearby and the warm summers and mild winters make it possible to play year round. Other nearby attractions include Out of Africa Wildlife Park and the Fort McDowell Casino. Fountain Hills hosts an Arts and Crafts Fair in February, a Fourth of July Celebration and a Great Fair in November.

South-central Arizona has a subtropical desert climate. The area just east of Phoenix near the Superstitious Mountains, has hot, sunny summers and mild winters. Temperatures in the summer often exceed 100 degrees F., with a few days each year generally reaching 110 F. The higher altitude in the eastern portion of the wilderness area has slightly lower temperatures than the western portion. The elevation in this region is approximately 2,000 feet above sea level. Average annual rainfall is about 8 inches. Thunderstorms are possible anytime of the year, but occur most often during the monsoon from July to early September. Storms are also possible in winter and occasionally produce significant rain. Snow of any measurable accumulation is rare.
