Munds-Park
is a small community located in Coconino County, northeast of Sedona, and approximately 14 miles south of Flagstaff. As of the 2000 census, Munds Park had a population of 1,250 residents. The elevation of the area is 6,700 feet, which makes it a perfect escape from the summer heat of the valley. It is centrally located for visiting Flagstaff, Sedona, the Slide Rock/Oak Creek Canyon area, the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Meteor Crater and numerous other attractions. The nearby Coconino National Forest offers hiking and mountain biking, camping, horseback riding, wildlife viewing and much more. Just a short drive from Munds Park, Sedona is Arizona's second most visited area, after the Grand Canyon. It is known internationally for its world class spas and recreational opportunities, such as hiking trails of varied degrees of difficulty, horseback riding, biking, ATV tours of the Sedona countryside, golf and tennis, camping and picnicking. You will also want to visit nearby Slide Rock State Park. This canyon features a natural water slide that has eroded into the slick rock and is surrounded by massive red-rock walls. It's a favorite of kids, but adults love it, too. Tours of the Sedona area are available by jeep, airplane, helicopter, on scenic railroads, or even by hot-air balloon. The small city of Flagstaff, which is just minutes from Munds Park, is the county seat for Coconino County and offers plenty of shopping, great restaurants, the Arboretum at Flagstaff, the Arizona Historical Society/Pioneer Museum and the Lowell Observatory.

Northern Arizona, in the mountainous region near Flagstaff, has a dry continental climate with four distinct seasons. A combination of high elevation and low humidity produces mild weather conditions most of the year. Although it's only 150 miles from the desert, the average temperature runs 28 degrees F. cooler due to the higher elevation. Temperatures throughout the year fall dramatically after sunset and winter nights are cold. Average annual snowfall is 100.3 inches, making this region one of the snowiest in the U.S. Even so, the area's relatively low latitude and plentiful sunshine quickly melts the snow. During the monsoon of July and August, brief, but intense, afternoon thunderstorms are possible. This region averages 276 days per year without precipitation.
